Cox’s Bazar International University hosted the inaugural National Moot Court Competition on Public Interest Litigation on 2nd November 2018 at Cox’s Bazar International University (CBIU). The competition was jointly organized by the Department of Law, CBIU and The Network For International Law Students (NILS) Bangladesh, where 16 teams from 13 universities from all over the country participated.
North South University grabbed the Champion Trophy and individual award of “Best Advocate” and the State University of Bangladesh awarded with 1st Runner-Up award. The University of Chittagong won the Best Researcher award and placed second runner-up of this competition. The team of Cox’s Bazar International University won the Best Memorial award.
The Chief Guest of the prize giving & closing ceremony, Justice S.M Mozibur Rahman, Honourable Justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, expressed that he was amazed by the arguments delivered by the law students coming from 13 universities and also expressed that he was feeling as if he were in a High Court Division Bench.
He further added aiming to the students that “If we look into our history what we can see is that most of the time lawyers have ruled the country. And that’s why they are called natural leaders. If you want to be such leaders, you have to earn that efficiency which will also help you to be successful in your career.”
The programme was chaired by Salauddin Ahmed CIP, Chairman of the board of trustees, Cox’s Bazar International University in presence of special guests Khandaker Hasan Muhammad Firoz, District and session judge, Cox’s Bazar; Saeed Ahsan Khalid, Assistant Professor, Dept.of Law, University of Chittagong; Lion Muhammad Mozibur Rahman, General Secretary of Board of Trustees, Cox’s Bazar International University; Treasurer Prof. Abdul Hamid; Register Nazimuddin Siddique; A.M.S Saifur Rahman, Controller of Examination l; Proctor Razidul Hoque; Abu Sufian Muhammad Tajuddin, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Law, CBIU; Ms. Nasrin Sultana, Lecturer of CBIU and Convenor of the Competition & President of-of NILS Bangladesh. Furthermore, faculty members of CBIU Law Department including Muhammad Razidur Rahman, Lecturer; Sadia Khanam, Lecturer; Jannatul Keya, Treasurer of NILS Bangladesh, Mohammad Sajjad; Deans of the different faculties, teachers and hundreds of students also attended in this programme.
The competition was adjudicated by renowned Judges and Professors from different universities. Saeed Ahsan Khalid, Assistant professor, Dept.of Law, University of Chittagong; Humaira Nawshin, Assistant Professor, Premier University; Mr. MD Abul Monsur Siddiki, Senior Assistant Judge, Cox’s Bazar; MD Minhazul Islam, Cox’s Bazar; Md. Deloar Hossain Shamim, Senior Judicial Magistrate, Coxbazar; Zerin Sultana, Senior Assistant Judge, Cox’s Bazar; Sheikh Habibur Rahman, Secretary General, NILS International; Rafiul Islam, Secretary-General, NILS Bangladesh; Muhammad Mamun, Vice President, NILS Bangladesh adjudicated in the competition.
Addressing the competition, Head of the Dept.of Law, Cox’s Bazar International University, Assistant Professor Abu Sufian Muhammad Tajuddin Ahmad said “This is a great achievement for Cox’s Bazar. Students of Cox’s Bazar will be encouraged by this competition to study law and they will be aware of solving any legal problem by arguments and logic.”
Law students from North South University, East-West University, Daffodil University, Southern University of Bangladesh, Leading University, Premier University, State University of Bangladesh, Sylhet International University, Metropolitan University, BGC Trust University Bangladesh , University of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar International University participated in this Moot Court competition.
