On April 7, 2018, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka (DU) hosted the Publication Ceremony of ‘Human Rights: Theory, Law and Practice in Bangladesh’ & ‘সমাজ, রাষ্ট্র ও মানবাধিকার’ by Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Professor of Law, DU and Former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at the Special Seminar Room of the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.

Professor Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister on International Affairs was the chief guest at the ceremony while Professor Dr. Shah Alam, Former Member of the Law Commission and Ex-Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Chittagong as well as Dr. Abul Barakat, Professor of Economics, DU were the special guests. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Rahmat Ullah, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka.

All the respected guests reviewed the newly published books of Dr. Rahmanstating the immense significance of these books in teaching Human Rights law in Bangladesh. They lauded Dr. Rahman’s efforts during his tenure as the Chairman of NHRC in upholding and ensuring the rights of the poor, underprivileged and the marginalized. Furthermore, the distinguished guests also reiterated that even after 47 years of our independence, much more work needed to be done for ensuring the human rights of every citizen of Bangladesh, especially the minority groups. They asserted that the vision of Dr. Mizanur Rahman and his grievances as expressed in the books could only be fulfilled and overcome if we all worked together to build a society where every human being lived with utmost dignity and no one was discriminated.

Ms. Priyanka Bose Kanta, Lecturer of Law, DU moderated the ceremony while Dr. Rumana Islam, Associate Professor of Law, DU delivered the welcome speech. Numerous law students, teachers, legal practitioners and researchers were present at the event.
