South Asia Institute for Social Transformation (SAIST) is going to host an intensive online course on International Refugee Law.

About this Course:

The persecution of minorities at the hand of their own government is a heinous chapter of the political history of mankind. Though the experience of World War II prompted the international community to adopt international human rights law to protect the minorities within national territories, their effectiveness to protect these persons from the arbitrary treatments remains under strong criticism. Thus, the legal regime of international refugee protection, which was primarily aimed at managing the post-World War II refugee affairs in Europe, has taken a permanent shape. However, International Refugee Law (IRL) has taken a comprehensive shape with its universal and regional characteristics and supplemented by other branches of international law. Though the purview of IRL has broadened significantly, its contribution to endow the right for the persons without rights still a matter of heated debate. Keeping these realities in mind, the South Asia Institute for Social Transformation (SAIST) has taken the initiative to offer an online course on International Refugee Law. This course is intended to provide an introductory understanding of the International Refugee Law. There will be a separate lecture on the applicability of IRL to Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
