The cricket enthusiast lawyers of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh are all set for the 6th Lawyer’s Cricket World Cup, 2017 to be held in Sri Lanka from 10th to 20th August, 2017. The theme of the tournament is “Cricket for Friendship” this year, which shall host a total of twelve teams  from Sri Lanka, India, England, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies and Bangladesh.

The tournament will be inaugurated by Justice Priyasath Dep, honorable Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. The legendary Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga shall also be present as a guest of honor in the program.

The Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup is a biennial cricket tournament which is played between the lawyers from all cricket playing countries. The previous tournaments were held in Hyderabad, India (2007), Cambridge, England (2009) Barbados, West Indies (2011), Delhi, India (2013) and Brisbane, Australia (2015/2016).

This year, the participating teams will face each other in 37 matches at leading cricket venues in Colombo including the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. The grand final of the tournament will be played at the acclaimed Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds (SSCG).

The lawyers of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh are participating in the tournament under two teams, Bangladesh and Bangladesh B. The members of the both Bangladesh teams include, among others, Khaled Hamid Chowdhury,  Muddasir Hossain, Junayed Ahmed Chowdhury, Mahdin Choudhury, S M Fazle Munim, Nabil Ahsan, Abul Nashar Azad, Mirza Khales, Saqeb Mahbub, Syed Emran Hossain, Kishore Kumar, Chanchal Mukherjee, Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddique, Abdur Rahman, Syed Sayedul Huq, Monsur Faruqui, Faisal Patwari, Nazrul Islam and Md. Rowshan Alam Khan.

Reception of Bangladesh Team

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) hosted a reception program yesterday in the honor of the participating players at the Supreme Court Auditorium. Honorable President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Zainul Abedin and Secretary Barrister A. M. Mahbub Uddin Khokan and other members of the SCBA met and greeted the players.

Reception of Bangladesh Team B

This tournament has become the premier international sporting event for lawyers of the cricket playing nations in the world. Furthermore, it also works as an ideal platform for the promotion of interaction among the members of the legal fraternity around the globe including the members of the judiciary, legal practitioners and academics.
