Dhaka University Moot Court Society (DUMCS) held the inaugural ceremony of their signature event, the 7th edition of the Inter Year Moot Court Competition on Monday, 11th September, 2017 at the Department of Law, University of Dhaka. Students, teachers as well as executive and general members of DUMCS attended the event. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, Chairman, Department of Law, University of Dhaka.

At the onset of the ceremony, Sayed Md. Shafayat, Vice President, DUMCS welcomed everyone to the event and briefly talked about the competition proceedings for the next three days. He reminded everyone that this was the 10th foundation anniversary of DUMCS and noted the progress of Dhaka University mooters in the national and global arena.

Syed Masud Reza, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka then delivered his speech. Mr. Reza reminisced the early days of DUMCS and Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan’s active role behind its establishment. He urged the students to get actively involved in mooting and debating competitions and urged DUMCS to focus on honing the delivery skills of the mooters.

Afterwards, Professor Dr. Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, Honorable Moderator, DUMCS addressed the audience. Highlighting the past achievements of DUMCS in the national and global arena, he urged the students to further the glorious legacy of DUMCS in the upcoming days. Dr. Nazmuzzaman added that participation of more teams was required to boost the activities of DUMCS in Law Faculty and wished all the teams good luck for the competition.

Following his speech, Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan delivered his speech as the chief guest of the event. Dr. Khan expressed similar views saying that participation of more teams was crucial to ensuring the rise of mooting culture and added that steps needed to be taken so that more students spontaneously got involved in the activity. He also lamented over the fact that the annual budget of DUMCS had not increased that much in the last 10 years and remarked that it was the duty of everyone to ensure that the success of DUMCS was sustained in the upcoming years. He ended his speech by inaugurating the 7th Inter Year Moot Court Competition.

After the inaugural speeches, the draw of lots and exchange of memorials among the teams took place. The day’s proceedings ended with the interns’ and researchers’ test.

The preliminary rounds of the competition will take place on 12th September and the knockout rounds will be held on 13th September. The grand finale and valedictory ceremony will be held on 14th September. For more details about the competition, visit:
