Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS) organized the first ‘Professor Dr. Khabir Uddin Ahmed Memorial Moot Court Competition on International law 2017’. The competition was held at Southern University Bangladesh of Chittagong on 3rd June, 2017.
The moot court competition focused upon the pertinent issue of ‘Refugee Crisis’, the most mooted and debated issue of world politics. The moot court competition was an attempt to enliven the black and white words of rights and remedies enshrined in international human rights treaties, and hoisted an urge towards the demolition of the crisis and vindicating global peace. Total 8 teams from 6 universities participated in this competition, where Chittagong University emerged as the champion and Northern University became the runners up team.
The competition hosted eight distinguished legal professionals including Muhammad Nazam Uddin (Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar), Mokarramus Shaklan (Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh) Jewel Deb, (Assistant Judge, Chittagong), Mohammed Saiful Elahi (Joint District & Sessions Judge, Sirajgonj), Ms. Uzma Shukrana (Assistant Judge, Comilla), Mr Tanvir Zaman (Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh), Ms. Nusrat Zaman (Assistant Judge, Cox’s Bazar) and Houssain Al Ashkari (Asst. Public Prosecutor, Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judges Court) as the honorable judges who acted as the judges in the competition.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Mustafa, honorable Vice Chancellor of Southern University Bangladesh was present as the chief guest; Prof. Md. Mohiuddin Khaled, Advisor, Department of Law, Southern University Bangladesh was present as the special guest in the award ceremony. They praised SCLS for such intellect building competition and wished to witness more competitions like this in the future.
